iFani Opens Up After Sol Phenduka’s Heartfelt Praise For ‘Msebenzi Wam’ Mixtape. South African rapper iFani has opened up about the impact of Sol Phenduka’s heartfelt praise for his latest mixtape, Msebenzi Wam, revealing that a single tweet can sometimes carry life-changing weight.

The Eastern Cape-born lyricist reacted emotionally after the Podcast and Chill co-host shared his thoughts on the eight-track project on X.
Phenduka described Msebenzi Wam as “a beautiful, brutally honest and vulnerable piece of work,” adding that he had been repeatedly listening to the project because of its authenticity.
“It’s beautiful. Not even chasing hits. Just expression,” Sol Phenduka wrote.
For iFani, those words appeared to strike a much deeper chord than a typical compliment from a fellow industry figure. The rapper responded by reflecting on the difficult experiences that shaped the music.
“Some tweets can change your life. Like, manyhani.
Super grateful kulengqawa. Super grateful to my life experiences.
It’s music now. But first, I had to live the hard-knock life,” he wrote.
The message offers a glimpse into the emotional foundation of Msebenzi Wam, a project that feels less concerned with commercial expectations and more focused on personal expression.
Released at the end of July under the Asanda Empires banner, the eight-track mixtape features songs including “West Side,” “Corrections,” the two-part title track, “Kwakhe Kwanje Phi Na” featuring Csana and Snymaan, “Ndivuselele” featuring Vuyo Manyike, “Bendingayaz” and “Into Zomhlaba” featuring Vee Sholo.
Rather than chasing radio-friendly singles or viral moments, iFani uses the project to explore introspection, cultural identity and the realities that have shaped his journey.
That honesty appears to be exactly what resonated with Phenduka, whose reputation for giving unfiltered opinions has made his commentary particularly influential within South African pop culture.
For iFani, the recognition also arrives at an important point in a career that has experienced its share of highs, setbacks and unexpected turns.
The rapper rose to prominence with vernacular hip-hop records that established him as one of the genre’s distinctive voices. His subsequent time away from the spotlight brought a period of personal reflection, before a renewed chapter saw him return to the public eye.
That comeback has included renewed attention around his classic track “Shake”, a remix, new management and now Msebenzi Wam, a project that feels deeply connected to everything he has experienced away from the spotlight.
