Leezy Lindokuhle Reveals The Delay Behind Making Her Debut Album. South African rapper Leezy Lindokuhle has opened up about why it has taken her time to begin working on her album, revealing that the lack of a personal studio and the challenge of translating her life experiences into music have played a major role in the delay.

Speaking to Shabzi and DJ Speedsta during her appearance on 5FM Hip Hop Nights, Leezy explained that having a dedicated creative space is particularly important to her as an artist and music producer. Despite having studied music production, she said financial limitations have prevented her from reaching a point where she can establish her own studio.

“I wish I had rich parents, but unfortunately, my story is different,” she said, explaining that she has had to work for everything she wants. She added that she accepts the journey because she believes it is part of what God has called her to do.

For Leezy, however, the delay goes beyond finances. She believes moving between different studios can affect the creative process because every space comes with its own atmosphere, people and artistic vision.

“I feel like the most important thing it’s having your own working space,” she said, stressing the importance of creating somewhere she can feel comfortable enough to explore her artistry without limitations.

The rapper also revealed that she is currently confronting a deeper challenge: learning how to transform her pain and personal experiences into music.

Leezy acknowledged that having endured loss and difficult experiences does not automatically mean an artist knows how to turn those emotions into songs. For her, the next stage of her growth involves learning how to “alchemise” her pain through her music.

That realisation was reinforced during a previous interaction with veteran rapper Slikour, who challenged her to move beyond simply proving that she could rap.

According to Leezy, Slikour told her, “We already know you’re a good rapper. This is about time you left your comfort zone.”

The comment struck a nerve because Leezy realised that she had been using her technical ability as a rapper as a shield from a more vulnerable side of her artistry.

“Every time, as rappers, sometimes you always want to prove a point that you can rap,” she explained. “Yeah, it’s okay, you can rap. But like, so I’m in that process right now where I’m like, I’m also tapping into, you know, learning how to express myself.”

Leezy’s current creative journey is therefore less about demonstrating her lyrical ability and more about discovering what happens when she allows herself to be vulnerable.

She said she wants to make music that does more than showcase her skills. Her goal is to create songs that can heal, reflecting her desire to turn personal pain into something meaningful for herself and her listeners.

The comments offer a glimpse into why Leezy has resisted rushing her album. Rather than releasing music simply to maintain visibility, she appears focused on creating from a place of authenticity, comfort and emotional honesty.

For an artist who has already established herself as a capable rapper, the next chapter could be about showing audiences not only how well she can rap, but what she has to say when she finally allows herself to let go.
