All Blacks coach Dave Rennie has confirmed that flyhalf Richie Mo’unga is likely to get his first taste of the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry tour against the Lions on 25 August.
Mo’unga was added to the All Blacks squad following the injury-enforced withdrawal of centre Billy Proctor.
The 56-Test flyhalf has not played for New Zealand since the 2023 World Cup final loss to the Springboks, having spent the past three seasons in Japan.
The 32-year-old returned to New Zealand a couple of months ago and became eligible for All Blacks selection again when he turned out for Canterbury against Auckland in the NPC on 1 August.

“Very excited and jumping out of his skin,” Rennie said when asked about Mo’unga after his side’s 50-29 win against the Bulls on Saturday night.
“He’s already done a fair bit of study and, yeah, we’ll spend the next while getting his head around our game.
“We won’t pick him in the first Test. He’s a chance to get some game time against the Lions.”
