Rassie Erasmus has provided an injury update on his two frontline wingers after the Springboks’ 33-16 loss to the All Blacks at Ellis Park on Saturday.
The result means the tourists take a 1-0 lead in the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series to Cape Town – where they enjoy some fanatical support.
Kurt-Lee Arendse left the field in the ninth minute of the match for an HIA, while Cheslin Kolbe limped off in the 58th.
REPORT: Five-try All Blacks punish Boks
“I think Cheslin was more cramp than anything else,” said Erasmus. “Kurt-Lee’s mouthguard pinged and the match doctor didn’t clear him.”
Players who fail an HIA are usually stood down for at least 10 days before being eligible for selection again.
Erasmus, meanwhile, refused to put a positive spin on the Boks’ loss.
“I’m not going to butter it up and say we’ll learn from this and get better,” he said.
“We didn’t have to learn from this. We knew what we had to do on the day and we didn’t do it.”
PSDT: We shot ourselves in the foot
Erasmus went further, insisting that even a different outcome would not have disguised the number of errors made by the world champions.
“It’s not a wake-up call – there were just so many things we did wrong and New Zealand did right,” he added.
