All Blacks coach Dave Rennie has addressed the latest injury concerns in the New Zealand camp ahead of clashes against the Springboks and Lions this week.
Loose forward Anton Segner will miss Tuesday’s match with the Lions after being withdrawn from the match 23 for last Saturday’s win over the Boks because of a swollen ankle.
“There’s nothing that I can really share at the moment,” Rennie said on Sunday during a press conference. “He won’t be available this week; he went into hospital for another check-up.
“There is something brewing, but I’ll be a bit clearer by later tonight.”
Segner’s condition has been assessed as acute inflammatory arthritis, with the All Blacks yet to determine when he will be available again or whether he will return home.
New Zealand have also lost prop Ethan de Groot and lock Josh Lord for the second Test at Cape Town Stadium after both suffered concussion injuries last week.
“The two that came off with concussion have been ruled out immediately,” Rennie said. “They are on a 12-day stand down; they were actually both pretty good post-game, but neither Ethan or Josh will be available on Saturday.”

Prop Ofa Tu’ungafasi and lock Jamie Hannah have been called up as cover. Both are expected to feature off the bench against the Lions after arriving in South Africa on Monday.
“We were trying to track them down immediately after the game.
“I sent Jamie a couple of messages, and we had to get someone to go around and knock on the door and wake him up to let him know he had about four hours to get on the plane.
“Hopefully they won’t have to play too many minutes. It just allows us to leave out a couple of other guys, so we haven’t got big numbers having to back up again on Saturday.”
The All Blacks face the Lions at Ellis Park on Tuesday before turning their attention to the Boks in Cape Town.
