Mo’unga gets Rennie’s seal of approval

Coach Dave Rennie was pleased with Richie Mo’unga’s first appearance for the All Blacks since returning from Japan, insisting the flyhalf will only improve with more game time.

Mo’unga joined the All Blacks squad in South Africa after Billy Proctor’s injury and made his return during Tuesday night’s 41-35 win against the Lions at Ellis Park.

Rennie was encouraged by his contribution.

“I think he had a lot of nice touches,” he said. “He’ll be better for that time on the park, and it’s not just about him jumping into the 10 jersey, but it’s the connection with everyone around you that you may not have played a lot of footy with.

“So look, we’re really pleased with his contribution; he’d be better for it.”
