Dee Koala Confirms She’s Working On New Music After Extended Hiatus. After months away from the spotlight, Dee Koala has given fans the clearest sign yet that her next chapter is taking shape. The Cape Town rapper recently responded to a fan lamenting her absence following the release of her acclaimed sophomore album iiNtsikelelo, turning a simple comment into a full-blown comeback tease.
Taking to X, a fan shared a sentiment that many Dee Koala fans could relate to: “Dee Koala dropped such an incredible album and then disappeared. 
”
Dee did not leave the comment hanging for long. The award-winning rapper replied with just six words: “I’m cooking, I’m back outside!”
The response immediately sparked excitement among fans, with supporters making it clear they are more than ready for new music. One fan responded, “Please I need it!” while another celebrated her return with the enthusiastic, “Hawu!! uKweila ubuyile!!”
Dee’s announcement comes roughly a year after the release of iiNtsikelelo, a project that represented one of the most significant chapters of her career.
Released on 8 August 2025, the 18-track album, whose title translates to “blessings” in isiXhosa, saw Dee lean further into the storytelling, vulnerability and unapologetic Cape Town identity that have defined her music.
Executive produced by Dee Koala and longtime collaborator Leo Lobelo, the album moved between gritty Khayelitsha narratives and deeply personal reflections on loss, family and growth. Among its standout moments were “Medi Yase Khayelitsha,” the emotional “Mama” featuring Kila G, and collaborations with Maglera Doe Boy on “Gwan,” YoungstaCPT on “Khaltsha,” and K.Keed and SimulationRxps on “Ekhaya.”
The project also strengthened Dee’s reputation as one of South African hip-hop’s most distinctive independent voices.
Following the album’s release, however, Dee largely stepped away from the centre of the music conversation. While she continued making select appearances and earned a gold certification in early 2026 for “Gwan” with Maglera Doe Boy, her overall output remained relatively quiet.
She briefly broke that silence with the 2026 single “Matasa,” but fans have been waiting for a more substantial return.
Whether that means a new single, a run of releases or potentially the beginning of her third album remains unclear. Dee has not revealed a release date or confirmed exactly what is coming next. What is clear is that anticipation is already building.
Dee Koala built her reputation through raw lyricism, kasi energy and an uncompromising approach to representing her roots. Her independent journey has seen her earn major industry recognition, including a SA Hip Hop Awards Best Female Artist win, while establishing herself as one of the voices synonymous with Cape Town’s contemporary hip-hop movement.
