Nick Mallett has urged Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu to put his individual brilliance aside and play for the Springboks’ system when they face the All Blacks in Cape Town on Saturday.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu was a late inclusion after Handré Pollard was ruled out with a calf injury, handing the Stormers flyhalf an enormous responsibility with the Boks trailing 1-0 in the four-Test series.
Mallett believes the 24-year-old has the ability to change a game but must resist the temptation to do it alone.
“Sacha’s going to have to subvert his own individual brilliance in some way,” Mallett wrote in his News24 column.
“He’s just got to put that youthful exuberance in his back pocket and concentrate on playing for the team.”

Mallett expects the Boks to adopt a more direct, territorial approach in what he believes could be wet conditions, with tactical kicking, set-piece pressure and defence key to their hopes of levelling the series.
“Sacha’s tactical kicking will have to be accurate. He’s got to play the game as if he was playing a World Cup final,” he said.
“There may be an opportunity that opens up – if it’s a barn door then, yes, he must run through it – but to run into forwards and take contact is definitely not the way he should play on Saturday.”

Mallett also believes South Africa will look to exploit their strengths at scrum time and through the driving maul, while kicking behind the All Blacks’ defence.
“So, it’s simple for the Boks. Double down on what they’re good at and don’t make mistakes!”
