Veteran Wallabies prop James Slipper has signed a one-year extension with the Brumbies, keeping alive his hopes of playing at a fifth World Cup.
The 37-year-old will remain in Canberra until the end of June next year, just three months before the 2027 World Cup kicks off in Australia.
Slipper, who will turn 38 during the tournament, says he has no plans to slow down.
“I still love coming in every day and competing with this group,” Slipper said on Thursday.
“We’ve built something really special at the Brumbies, and I still get a lot of enjoyment out of being part of it. The body still feels good, I’m enjoying my footy and I feel like I’ve still got plenty to contribute, both on the field and around the group.”

The new deal will take Slipper into a 17th Super Rugby season and extend his record as the competition’s most-capped player. He has made 212 Super Rugby appearances, 10 more than retired All Blacks prop Wyatt Crockett, while his 154 Test caps are second only to Wales legend Alun Wyn Jones’ 170.
Slipper came out of international retirement at former Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt’s request for the Nations Championship in July, but has not featured in Australia’s three Tests under new coach Les Kiss.
However, the Brumbies have indicated that Slipper is not closing the door on his international career and would be ready to return if the opportunity arises.

A fifth World Cup would put Slipper in rare company. He could become the first Australian and only the fourth player overall to appear at five World Cups, joining Samoa’s Brian Lima and Italy’s Mauro Bergamasco and Sergio Parisse.
Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham believes Slipper still has plenty to offer.
“Slips is still playing outstanding rugby. He was one of our most consistent performers throughout 2026 and he’s shown he can continue to make a big impact for this team,” Larkham said.
“What he brings away from game day is just as important. He’s an exceptional leader, he drives standards every day and the knowledge he passes on to our younger players is invaluable.”
