Ma-E Revives Township Classic With ‘Ubzukuzuku 2.0’ Featuring Focalistic, DJ Mr X, Bospiani and DHorn. South African hip-hop veteran Ma-E has returned to one of his most recognisable records with Ubzukuzuku 2.0, a refreshed version of his 2016 classic from the album Township Counsellor. The new single brought together Ma-E, Focalistic, DJ Mr X, Bospiani and DHorn for a modern take on the township favourite.
The release sees Ma-E reconnect with a song that has remained part of his musical identity while introducing a new cast of voices and contemporary street sounds. The involvement of Focalistic, DJ Mr X and Bospiani adds an Amapiano influence to Ma-E’s established hip-hop sound, giving Ubzukuzuku 2.0 a distinctly current feel.
Ma-E, whose real name is Ezee Hanabe, first made his mark as a member of Teargas alongside K.O and Ntukza. Throughout his career, the rapper has built a reputation around music that reflects township experiences, street culture and everyday life. Those elements helped make the original Ubzukuzuku a memorable release for his audience.
Almost a decade after the original track arrived, Ubzukuzuku 2.0 brings that familiar foundation into a new musical era. The collaboration also creates a meeting point between Ma-E’s hip-hop roots and the Amapiano-driven sound that continues to shape South Africa’s contemporary music landscape.
