Jake White believes the Springboks’ old guard has answered questions over their longevity after powering through four consecutive Tests against the All Blacks.
The Boks recovered from their opening defeat at Ellis Park to claim a 3-1 series victory, with several of their senior players playing leading roles.
White highlighted Pieter-Steph du Toit, Malcolm Marx, Jesse Kriel, Eben Etzebeth, Damian de Allende and Deon Fourie as players whose longevity had been questioned.
But their performances against the All Blacks have given White little reason to doubt their ability to keep delivering.

“As is often discussed, the Springboks have a clutch of ageing players, so to win three consecutive Tests over three weekends shows their detractors that they still have the burning desire, and most importantly legs, to go the distance,” White wrote in his RugbyPass column.
“There have been question marks raised in some quarters, but they’ve answered doubts unequivocally. They’ve gone to some dark places and come through the other side.”
White believes that ability to produce under pressure will be crucial when Rassie Erasmus’ men face the demands of the World Cup knockout stage.
“What has impressed me is Rassie’s powers to motivate, time and time again.”

White also believes the Boks should not make wholesale changes after their latest triumph.
“I was asked yesterday, what should the Springboks change? Well, I would say nothing. Without being arrogant, it’s for the chasing pack to catch up.”
