The Springboks cannot relinquish their world No 1 ranking against the Wallabies in Perth.
Three consecutive wins against the All Blacks have given the Boks their highest-ever rankings tally of 95.09 points and a 3.94-point cushion at the top.
The world champions will remain No 1 even if they lose to the seventh-ranked Wallabies on Sunday.
A defeat by between one and 15 points would see South Africa lose 2.00 ranking points and drop to 93.09, with Australia gaining the same amount and moving above Scotland into sixth.
A Wallabies win by 16 points or more would earn them 3.00 points and lift them above Scotland and England into fifth, while reducing the Boks’ tally to 92.09.
The Boks, meanwhile, cannot gain any ranking points by beating the Wallabies, as the 11.54-point gap between the teams exceeds 10 points.
