Mikel Arteta has agreed a new and improved contract with Arsenal, bringing an end to months of uncertainty over the manager’s future at the Emirates Stadium.
Transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the Spanish coach has reached an agreement with the Premier League champions to extend his stay at the club. Arteta’s previous contract was due to expire at the end of the current 2025/26 season, with negotiations over a new deal having been ongoing for several months.
The 44-year-old has been in charge of Arsenal since December 2019 and has overseen a significant transformation of the club. After three consecutive Premier League runner-up finishes, Arteta guided Arsenal to their first league title in 22 years last season.
Talks over a new contract had gathered momentum in recent months, with Arsenal’s hierarchy making the manager’s renewal a major priority. Arsenal co-chair Josh Kroenke said in May that securing Arteta’s future was the club’s “utmost priority” following the successful title-winning campaign.
Arteta had also previously indicated that he wanted to remain at Arsenal. In August, he reassured supporters that his future was not a concern and said he was happy at the club. The new agreement is expected to provide Arteta with improved terms, although the exact length of the contract has not yet been officially confirmed.
