Contepomi bolsters Los Pumas backroom

Argentina head coach Felipe Contepomi has made two key additions to his support staff until the end of the 2027 World Cup.

Former France defence coach Shaun Edwards and ex-Argentina head coach Mario Ledesma will join Los Pumas ahead of the resumption of the Nations Championship in November.

Edwards spent seven years with France, helping them win the Six Nations in 2022, 2025 and 2026. Ledesma, who coached Los Pumas from 2018 to 2022, returns as forwards coach after working as a consultant and coaching at U17 level.

“Mario and Shaun arrive at Los Pumas with enormous international experience,” Contepomi  said. “They know what it means to compete at the highest level and can contribute a lot to the team.”

Ledesma said he was grateful for the opportunity to return, while Edwards relished his return to the national set-up.

“I’ve always admired the skill and quality of Argentinian players, and I look forward to contributing my international experience to the team over the next year,” Edwards said.

Ledesma added: “ I am honoured and very grateful for the opportunity to work with Los Pumas again.”

The Argentines will begin the next phase of their Nations Championship campaign against Ireland (6 November, Dublin), Italy (14 November, Genoa) and France (21 November, TBC).
