iFani Calls For Eastern Cape Female MCs As EC vs KZN Cypher Hits Round 4. Eastern Cape hip-hop veteran iFani is calling on the province’s hip-hop community to help identify more female rappers as the EC vs KZN Cypher prepares to deliver its fourth round, with a Heavyweight set to join the lyrical showdown.

The “Shake” hitmaker took to Instagram to appeal directly to fans for recommendations, revealing that Yara Lane and Nomalanga are already on his list. “EC: Please give me Female MCs names
,” he wrote. “We need more female rappers zase Eastern Cape to join our Cypher. Please help
.”
iFani also encouraged followers to share the post to widen the search and help uncover skilled female MCs from across the province. His latest appeal forms part of the ongoing recruitment drive for the Eastern Cape team, which is going up against KwaZulu-Natal in a provincial hip-hop battle led on the KZN side by Lockdown Cypher heavyweight Zakwe.
Nomalanga was among the artists whose names emerged when iFani first invited nominations months ago. Yara Lane, a Mthatha-raised rapper recognised for her Xhosa lyricism and poetry-influenced delivery, has also been confirmed for the cypher. Her releases include “Phakathi.”
The continued search for female rappers signals iFani’s intention to broaden the Eastern Cape lineup and give more women an opportunity to showcase their skills. The recruitment effort comes as the team works to fill gaps left by earlier withdrawals, making fresh nominations important to strengthening the provincial roster.
Round 4 is scheduled to feature a Heavyweight, according to iFani, adding another major talking point to the competition. The EC vs KZN Cypher brings MCs from the two provinces together in successive rounds, placing lyrical ability, vernacular delivery and regional pride at the centre of the contest. TruFM is supporting the initiative as its media partner, while Nasty Energy Drink backs the Eastern Cape camp.
Beyond the cypher, iFani also addressed a planned event in KuGompo, formerly known as East London, scheduled for 31 October. He apologised over the situation, explaining that it was “really out of my control.”
As the fourth round approaches, iFani’s search for more female MCs remains a key part of the Eastern Cape camp’s preparations. With Yara Lane and Nomalanga already identified, the appeal opens the door for more women to earn their place in a cypher that continues to bring the region’s hip-hop talent into the spotlight.
