South African production duo Rush-Awa, comprising MashBeatz and DJ Sliqe, are bringing some of the country’s biggest hip-hop names together on their self-titled debut album, a 15-track project aimed at strengthening collaboration within the local music scene.
The duo announced the project on Instagram, describing it as an effort to bridge the gap between artists in the South African hip-hop community. “This one is for South Ahh. Rush-Awa is here to fill the gap in collaboration in our beloved Hip Hop family. Let’s make Hip-Hop great again

Several collaborations stand out, particularly “Streetz”, which pairs Blxckie with Nasty C and Usimamane, and “Chocolate 2by2”, which brings together 25K, Blxckie and Maglera Doe Boy. These combinations place artists with different sounds and career trajectories on the same project, reflecting Rush-Awa’s stated ambition to encourage more collaboration across the scene.
MashBeatz and DJ Sliqe lead the project’s production and creative direction under the Rush-Awa name. Additional production contributions come from collaborators including CraigCreates, also known as Craig Rimbi, and D3NZL on tracks such as “Lapisa” and “Ntshepe”.
The production draws on South African hip-hop, combining hard-hitting beats with club-oriented energy and street influences. The album also builds on the different approaches introduced by its early singles, with “Lapisa” leaning into an energetic, township-inspired sound while “Ntshepe” takes a more measured approach.
Glo Thebeatz handled the mixing and mastering at Playground Productions, while Rush-Awa took charge of the executive production and publishing, according to the supplied project details.
With pre-orders already available and a release party scheduled, the debut marks a significant step for MashBeatz and DJ Sliqe as a production duo. Rather than relying on a single headline collaboration, the album brings together artists across multiple tracks, creating opportunities for different voices within South African hip-hop to share the same platform.
As Rush-Awa prepare to introduce the full project, their message is clear: they want collaboration to play a bigger role in the future of the local hip-hop community. Ke Rush-Awa Jo.
