Pollard among Bulls’ walking wounded

The Bulls paid a price for Saturday’s 34-26 win against Ulster at Loftus, with three players doubtful for next weekend’s URC clash against the Scarlets.

Springbok flyhalf Handré Pollard left the field in the second half with a hamstring injury while centre Sango Xamlashe suffered concussion after slamming his head into the ground during a tackle attempt. Wing Cheswill Jooste also failed an HIA and will continue to be assessed.

“It’s been a while since we had so many casualties,” said a rueful Johan Ackermann.

But the Bulls coach added that he was satisfied the team had the depth to absorb the run of injuries. This, however, likely doesn’t extend to Canan Moodie, who is under return to play protocols and will be assessed again on Monday.

Fortunately, substitute wing Dylan Maart showed up well in his debut Bulls performance while other backs, like Stedman Gans and Stravino Jacobs, can also fill in at centre or wing.
