Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi will reportedly join another South African URC team from the Sharks on Wednesday.
According to Netwerk24, the 35-year-old double World Cup winner will return to the Stormers, where he played between 2015 and 2021 before moving to Durban.
The reported move comes amid uncertainty over Mbonambi’s future at the Sharks following allegations of misconduct during a pre-season team-building camp.
Rapport reported earlier this month that Mbonambi was involved in a disciplinary dispute with the Sharks over an alleged breach of team rules.
The veteran hooker has not been training with his Sharks teammates despite being fit enough to play, with coach JP Pietersen declining to comment on his absence.
A move back to Cape Town could give Mbonambi an opportunity to revive his career and push for a place in the Springbok squad for next year’s World Cup.

The Stormers, meanwhile, are facing a hooker crisis after André-Hugo Venter (elbow), Deon Fourie (hamstring) and Lukhanyo Vokozela (concussion) were all injured during Saturday’s 52-40 win against the Scarlets.
With JJ Kotze suspended, Vernon Paulo is currently their only available senior hooker, prompting a return to training for twice-retired Scarra Ntubeni.
