The Welsh Rugby Union has reportedly opened formal talks over two Welsh clubs joining the English Premiership in a move that could reshape the URC.
According to WalesOnline, the WRU is in serious discussions with Premiership Rugby Limited and the Rugby Football Union, having submitted an expression of interest.
WRU chief executive Abi Tierney is expected to inform representatives of Wales’ four professional clubs – Cardiff, Dragons, Ospreys and Scarlets – of the development at a special meeting on Wednesday afternoon.
The move comes amid ongoing uncertainty over the future of professional rugby in Wales, with the WRU having proposed reducing the number of teams from four to three.

The Ospreys and Scarlets have been fighting for their survival, but the possibility of joining the Premiership could dramatically alter those plans.
Other options reportedly under consideration include retaining two Welsh teams in the URC or moving two into the second-tier English Championship.
The switch to the Premiership could happen as early as next season, although the 2027-28 campaign is considered a more realistic target.
