Springbok hooker Malcolm Marx has reportedly agreed to a three-year deal with a South African URC club.
The 32-year-old is set to join the Bulls on 1 July 2027, with a source telling Rapport that negotiations are “90% complete”.
Marx confirmed on Friday that he would leave Japanese club the Kubota Spears when his contract expires at the end of the 2026-27 season.
The two-time World Cup winner is reportedly keen to reunite with Bulls coach Johan Ackermann, who played a significant role in his development at the Lions between 2014 and 2019.
The Bulls are understood to have stepped up their pursuit of Marx after Junior Boks hooker Esethu Mnebelele opted to continue his career at the Sharks.
The Durban-based club, who this week agreed to release Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi from his contract, had also reportedly expressed interest in signing Marx.
Marx joined Kubota in 2021 and has scored 41 tries in 68 appearances. He helped the Spears win the Japan Rugby League One title in 2022-23 and reach the final in both 2024-25 and 2025-26.
