Hyron to be laid to rest

The family of the late Lions lock Hyron Andrews has announced details of two public memorial events to honour his life.

Andrews died suddenly on 16 October at the Lions’ team hotel in France, a day before their opening Investec Champions Cup match against La Rochelle.

A public memorial service will be held at the VGK Huguenot Church in Paarl on Friday, 6 November, starting at 6pm. A private funeral service will take place in Paarl the following day.

A celebration of Andrews’ life is also scheduled for Wednesday, 11 November, at Kings Park in Durban – where he spent eight years of his career – with further details to be confirmed.

“We would like to sincerely thank everyone for the messages of support and condolences following Hyron’s passing,” the Andrews family said in a statement.

“As a family, we are deeply grateful for every message, call and gesture of kindness as we navigate this difficult time.

“Your love and support have carried us, and it means more than words can express.”
