Stormers star set for Bulls switch

The DHL Stormers are set to lose one of their star scrumhalves to the Vodacom Bulls when his contract expires at the end of this season.

According to a report by Netwerk24, scrumhalf Paul de Wet is ready to take up a move to Pretoria, as his contract with the DHL Stormers ends this year.

The Vodacom Bulls have reportedly made an offer for De Wet, who can also play on the wing, as Jake White aims to improve his halfback depth.

De Wet played off the bench in the Stormers’ 27-10 loss to Glasgow Warriors in the Vodacom URC quarter-finals, scoring a try to cut the deficit to three points in the second half.

The 28-year-old speedster has made 17 appearances for the Stormers in all competitions this season, nine of those as a substitute.

A product of the Wester Province junior system, he has clocked up 72 caps for the Stormers since making his debut in the 2018 Super Rugby season.

Losing De Wet would be a big blow for the Stormers, who have relied heavily on his speed and nose for a try to positively impact games as both a starter and substitute. It would leave the Stormers with Herschel Jantjies, Stefan Ungerer and Godlen Masimla as senior scrumhalves, while Imad Khan is coming through the junior ranks.

De Wet is not the only Stormers player rumoured to be joining the Bulls next season, with flank Nama Xaba also reported to be set on a move to Loftus Versfeld.
