Sherratt sharpens up Wales backroom

The Welsh Rugby Union have confirmed a key addition to new head coach Matt Sherratt’s support staff for the remainder of the 2025 Six Nations.

Former Wales hooker T. Rhys Thomas will join Sherratt’s backroom team as a skills coach. Thomas, capped 27 times and also played for Cardiff, Wasps and Dragons, joins the national team from Premiership outfit Gloucester.

According to the WRU, Thomas will work closely with forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys and scrum consultant Adam Jones, who is also on secondment from English club Harlequins.

“I’m delighted that TR will be joining the coaching team and I’d like to thank Gloucester for allowing him to come on secondment to Wales,” said Sherratt, who last week replaced Warren Gatland after the Kiwi stepped down following Wales’ 14th successive defeat.

“Having known TR for a number of years, I think he will be a great fit for the group. I’m excited to officially start in the role now and get preparations underway for our match against Ireland on Saturday.”

Thomas added: “I would like to thank Gloucester and George Skivington for allowing me to take up this opportunity to join Wales for the remaining three Six Nations games.”

Wales face defending champions Ireland on Saturday at the Principality Stadium, before clashes against Scotland (8 March) and England (15 March).
