Celebrate world champion Springbok Jaque Fourie’s birthday with a look back on his illustrious career.
The 72-Test former Bok centre, who turns 42 today, was a stalwart of the team that won the 2007 World Cup, forming what was a record-breaking midfield combination with eventual Test centurion Jean de Villiers.
Fourie serves as the defence coach for the Lions, which is where his professional career kicked off in 2002. He joined the Stormers for two seasons in 2010, reaching the Super Rugby final in his first year in Cape Town, before accepting a lucrative offer to head to Japan.
Fourie scored 32 Test tries, including one against the All Blacks in Bloemfontein in a victory that ignited a three-win hot streak against New Zealand in 2009. Perhaps his most famous try came in the victorious series against the British & Irish Lions when he came off the bench to score against the tourists in the decisive second Test at Loftus Versfeld.
