Despite the cold and rain on Sunday, 16 November, the Inanda Seminary Alumnae Association (ISAA) held its 10th Annual General Meeting in Sandton, followed by an elegant high tea. Hosted in the warm, stylish studio of designer Fred Eboka and fabric manufacturer Tina Eboka — an accomplished alumna who trained in Philadelphia — the gathering brought together about 40 alumnae, with others joining online. Among them were Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Nomalungelo Gina and esteemed legal practitioner Adv. Thandi Orleyn, recently honoured by the University of Fort Hare.
A Feast of Sisterhood
The afternoon radiated unity and pride. Members contributed an array of treats — charcuterie cups, cheese boards, fruit platters, confectionery, teas, wine, and champagne — transforming the high tea into a celebration of friendship and shared purpose. It was within this atmosphere that outgoing Chairperson Dr Siphokazi Koyana reflected on her impactful six-year tenure, leaving behind a legacy that strengthened both the alumnae community and the lives of black girls in South Africa.
A School That Never Stops Rising
Since 1869, Inanda Seminary has stood as a beacon of discipline, faith, and academic excellence. Under Dr Koyana’s stewardship, this legacy has flourished. One of the most notable achievements of her term is the successful fundraising effort that resulted in a new school hall. Partnerships with institutions such as the Durban University of Technology, whose engineering students designed a new hostel, have further enhanced the school’s long-term vision.
Corporate support has also expanded significantly. Italtile donated Kilimanjaro tiles to upgrade bathrooms after contributing nearly R2 million in bursaries over four years. Investec, VW South Africa, Toyota, Phembani, and several non-profit organisations have helped fund infrastructure and bursaries, opening doors of opportunity for economically disadvantaged learners.
Building Sustainability and Community
The inaugural Endowment Fund Golf Day at Blair Atholl raised crucial funds to secure the school’s financial future. Dr Koyana also strengthened alumnae engagement through a vibrant biannual newsletter showcasing achievements, initiatives, and milestones.
Why Inanda Still Leads
Inanda’s academic performance remains exceptional. With consistent top rankings in KwaZulu-Natal and strong Bachelor pass rates, the school continues to shape confident, resilient young women. At R89,500 per year (including boarding and meals), Inanda offers a cost-effective, holistic education rooted in African ethos, leadership, and character.
A Legacy That Welcomes Your Child
Inanda has produced formidable leaders across business, academia, medicine, and public service. As applications remain open for 2026, the message remains clear: Inanda Seminary is more than a school — it is a legacy of excellence, opportunity, and hope.
