Ackermann not on Stormers radar

The DHL Stormers have rejected rumours that they are on the verge of sending an SOS to Japan-based former Lions coach Johan Ackermann.

A report by RugbyPass suggested that the Stormers are considering sending an emergency call to Ackermann to bolster their coaching staff.

This comes after the defeat to defending champions Glasgow Warriors in Stellenbosch, which has left the Stormers in 13th place after six rounds of the Vodacom URC season.

However, a source at the Stormers ruled this out as being a consideration as the coaching staff is confident of rebounding from a slow start.

Speaking after the match at the Danie Craven Stadium, John Dobson said he expects a response when the Stormers return to action in four weeks.

“We are up against it now. Today would have been important for the log and our morale going into the break. We know we aren’t the biggest chequebook team in the league. But we pride ourselves on exceeding the sum of our parts.”

The Stormers will travel to tackle the Sharks when the URC resumes after the four-week international break on 30 November.
