Born Kiernan Jarryd Forbes on January 28, 1988, AKA rose from Johannesburg’s creative circles to become a defining voice in African hip-hop. Known to fans as Supa Mega or Bhova, he carved out a legacy built on sharp lyricism, magnetic confidence, and fearless ambition.
His celebrated albums, including Altar Ego (2011), Levels (2014), Be Careful What You Wish For (2017), Touch My Blood (2018), and the posthumous Mass Country, delivered era-defining songs such as “Victory Lap,” “Congratulate,” “Run Jozi (Godly),” and “Fela In Versace.”
Through these records, he fused South African identity with global sounds, earning multiple awards, platinum certifications, and a loyal fanbase known as the Megacy. Forbes’ life was tragically cut short on February 10, 2023, when he was fatally shot outside a restaurant in Durban at the age of 35, alongside his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
