The singer, in his second week on the Afrobeats chart, peaked at number one.
Nigerian ace singer and performer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has reached #1 on a United States music chart.
The YBNL-Empire artist released his new album ‘Lungu Boy’ on Friday, August 9, 2024, and the album has the potential to become one of his most commercially successful albums. The highly experimental album, which features Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid, American rapper Travis Scott, Brazilian songstress Ludmilla, and British rappers Stormzy and Central Cee, has been garnering significant streaming numbers and dominating charts both locally and internationally.
As momentum for the album continues to grow, ‘Active,’ one of the crowd favourites from the album has reached #1 on the United States Billboard Afrobeats chart. The single, which features Travis Scott initially debuted on the chart at #8 last week but has now peaked at #1 in its second week.
This achievement comes after the Neo-Fuji artiste hit other milestones, such as reaching #1 in the UK and 16 other countries with his ‘Lungu Boy‘ album and selling out the 16,000-capacity State Farm Arena in the US, among others.
Before “Active” unlocked the penthouse, Asake, a Nigerian-based singer and rapper, had previously topped out at a No. 6 best on U.S. Afrobeats Songs with two different tracks. “Palazzo,” a collaboration with Spinall, debuted and peaked at the rank in May 2022 as did his solo track “Terminator” just over three months later.
