A Springbok lock is set for a move to France next season.
According to Rapport, Stormers captain Salmaan Moerat is seriously weighing up a move to French giants La Rochelle and could link up with the club later this year.
Moerat is currently sidelined after undergoing toe surgery following the Stormers clash against the Sharks in Cape Town in January.
A source close to the player told Rapport that while the deal has not yet been finalised, there are still one or two outstanding issues on the Stormers’ side before it can be confirmed.
The 28-year-old is expected to return in time for the Vodacom URC playoffs and could also come into contention for the Springboks’ Test against England at Ellis Park on 4 July.
Should the move materialise, it would leave the Stormers thin in the second row. Ruben van Heerden has already signed with Montpellier for next season, while a potential deal for the Bulls’ Cobus Wiese collapsed after he opted to remain in Pretoria.
