25 YEARS OF SEASIDE MAGIC || HELP BRING THE JOY OF THE OCEAN TO CHILDREN EXPERIENCING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME
Next week, Breadline Africa will celebrate 25 years of its much-loved Seaside Outing – a tradition that has given thousands of children the chance to see the ocean for the very first time. What began as a simple idea has become one of the most anticipated days on the calendar for children from under-resourced pre-schools across the Western Cape.
Last year, 139 children aged four to six spent an unforgettable day at the sea. For many, it was their first glimpse of the ocean. They built sandcastles, collected shells, played beach games and discovered a world they had only ever dreamed of. Teachers noticed how the experience sparked confidence and imagination long after they returned to school.
“Every year, when I see the smiles on the children’s faces as they discover the sea for the first time, it reminds me why the Seaside Outing is so special,” says Marion Wagner, CEO of Breadline Africa. “Knowing that a simple day at the beach can open up a world of possibilities is the greatest reward of all.”
This year’s Seaside Outing takes place from 18–21 November, marking its 25th anniversary. Beyond the waves and laughter, it’s a day that restores a sense of wonder and reminds children that their dreams are valid and achievable.
Breadline Africa invites local businesses and community members to be part of the celebration by contributing towards making the day even more special and safe. Items such as sunhats, sunscreen, books, flip-flops or small gifts for the children’s goodie bags are welcome.
You can also sponsor a child’s outing (R630) or support transport, meals or educational activities that form part of the day. Every contribution helps create lifelong memories -and a little seaside magic that children will carry with them forever.
