Celebrating Our Partnership With King’s Trust International: Spotlight on Youth Changemakers Pascal and Alice
At Asante Africa Foundation, we believe in the power of partnerships to transform lives. Our collaboration with King’s Trust International (KTI) through the Enterprise Challenge has empowered young entrepreneurs across East Africa with the skills, confidence, and tools to build thriving businesses and change their communities.
This year, we’re celebrating two remarkable youth from our programs, Pascal and Alice, who were honored at the 2025 King’s Trust Awards in London for their extraordinary achievements. Their stories are a testament to the ripple effect of investing in youth leadership and entrepreneurship.
Alice: Weaving Hope Through Tradition and Innovation
Nineteen-year-old Alice, from Turkana County, Kenya, turned a traditional craft into a lifeline for her family and her community. After losing her father, the beaded jewelry business she launched through the Enterprise Challenge became her family’s sole source of income, keeping her siblings in school.
But Alice didn’t stop there. She now trains other girls in beadmaking, hires employees, and uses digital marketing skills learned in the program to sell her products nationwide. In June 2025, she received the Amal Clooney Women’s Empowerment Award, presented by Amal Clooney and Charlotte Tilbury. Clooney noted that Alice’s resilience, courage and entrepreneurial spirit really stood out among the nominees. “With her bright spirit, Alice has shared her skills with those around her, bringing together young women in her community and inspiring them to carve out their own path.”
“When a girl is empowered, the whole community is enlightened,” Alice says.
Pascal: Turning Trash into Treasure and a Movement
From Mabira, Uganda, Pascal saw plastic waste choking his community and decided to act. Leveraging skills from the Enterprise Challenge, he launched a recycling initiative that now diverts 80% of local waste from landfills, transforming bottles into flower pots, dustbins, and water fountains.
Pascal’s work goes beyond recycling: he’s trained students, partnered with local councils, and mobilized half his community to join cleanups, recycling 300kg of plastic monthly! His efforts earned him the 2025 Global Sustainability Award, presented by Eric Collins and Veronica Duarte.
“I want to inspire sustainable practices,” Pascal shares. “It’s amazing to see the community come together.” He credits the Enterprise Challenge program for giving him the skills that helped him identify a challenge in his community, come up with a solution, then design and implement the initiative.
The Power of Partnership: Asante Africa Foundation & King’s Trust International
Pascal and Alice’s journeys began in our Youth Livelihood Program, where they gained leadership and entrepreneurship training before excelling in KTI’s Enterprise Challenge. Together, our programs provide:
- Hands-on business skills
- Mentorship and networking
- A platform to scale ideas
Their awards are not just personal victories. They prove what’s possible when youth are equipped to lead.
