Cheetahs lose Bok bruiser for Euro clash

The Cheetahs will be without veteran Springbok forward Oupa Mohoje for their battle with Zebre Parma in round 3 of the EPCR Challenge Cup on Sunday.

Mohoje, who played the last of his 19 Tests in 2018, hurt his shoulder in a 26-10 defeat to Cardiff at Cardiff Arms Park on 15 December, and has been excluded from a 27-man Cheetahs touring squad to Amsterdam.

Also not available for the NRCA Stadium clash due to injury are flanker Gideon van der Merwe (ankle), outside back James Verity-Amm (knee), lock Carl Wegner (finger) and props Banele Mthenjane (hamstring), Cameron Dawson and Robert Hunt (both calf).

STATE OF THE EURO CUPS: Make or break for Bulls, Stormers

The Cheetahs are still looking for their first win in this season’s Challenge Cup after a 20-20 ‘home’ draw with French club Perpignan in round 1. With a tough away fixture against Lyon concluding their pool campaign, the Cheetahs will be targeting a five-point haul against Zebre, who are 15th on the Vodacom URC standings.

Full Cheetahs squad – Forwards: Aranos Coetzee, Schalk Ferreira, Corne Fourie, Marko Janse van Rensburg, Pieter Janse van Vuren, Daniel Maartens, Friedle Olivier, Vernon Paulo, Jeandre Rudolph, Victor Sekekete, Pierre-Raymond Uys, Henus van Wyk, Louis van der Westhuizen, Neels Volschenk, Laurence Victor, Siskonke Vumazonke. Backs: Michael Annies, Carel-Jan Coetzee, Ruben de Haas, Munier Hartzenberg, Cohen Jasper, Rewan Kruger, Ali Mgijima, Jandre Nel, Prince Nkabinde, Litha Nkula, Ethan Wentzel.
