DJ Sliqe Reveals The Untold Story Of How The MXR Was Born. DJ Sliqe has opened up about the birth of The MXR, a rooftop performance concept that has grown from a quick merch push into a cultural moment. The series carries the spontaneity of pop-up filmings and the polish of a curated rollout, with each clip turning city views and tight edits into shareable performances that travel across timelines.

“You know how it started? So last year I dropped Inja Yami Volume 3, and we had merch coming out. So we shot the first video on the roof, fun, I was just trying to promote the merch. And then I was like, let’s do another one. Did another one in Rarri Cape Town, I’m like Oh, MashBeatz, the one I did with Mash went viral. Did one more at The Rockets, then I did one more with the City, that one went super viral.
“Then all the requests started like Yo, we need this. Then I was like, okay, cool. How do we get to invite people, and I guess that’s why we are here,” said Sliqe.
Asked what makes the latest instalment different, he added, “So basically it’s like a season 1 recap, we had Mash (MashBeatz), we had Rarri, and we had Lesedi. So now it’s just a recap season; the year is over. So we did it all together, we planned one set together.”
The format is simple to describe and powerful in effect. A rooftop or high-energy urban space becomes the stage, the skyline becomes the backdrop, and the camera becomes the crowd. Early episodes carried a raw agility that matched the spirit of discovery, then momentum took over as clips with MashBeatz, Rarri, and a city-stamped entry drew strong reactions. Requests from fans created a feedback loop that shifted the project from one-off stunts to a repeatable blueprint.
The new instalment functions as a season closer and a narrative stitch. Bringing MashBeatz, Rarri, and Lesedi into one planned set turns individual moments into a single story. It signals a move from episodic drops toward a chaptered experience that can be replayed as a highlight reel. The choice to plan one set together suggests tighter transitions, cohesive sound, and a shared visual language that spotlights chemistry rather than chance.
