DJ Speedsta Hits Back At Claims He Has Contributed Nothing To SA Hip-Hop Culture. Veteran South African hip-hop DJ and radio personality DJ Speedsta has delivered a blistering response to critics questioning his impact on the local scene, brushing off the commentary as empty noise from someone with no real standing in the culture.

The outspoken media figure took to X to address claims that he has “done nothing” for SA hip-hop. His response was swift, sarcastic, and laced with sharp humour that quickly caught attention on the timeline.
“This frog just runs it’s mouth!!
No credibility, no facts, no experience. Nothing,” Speedsta wrote. “He thought he’s cooking me. Cooked himself to Christmas Lunch 2027. No longer gonna listen to a single thing he says! And he super rude!
@MswenkoFranko hold here!

The fiery post followed a circulating video shared by a handle @DJSamAxel, who came to Speedsta’s defence while challenging critics to account for their own contributions to the genre. In the clip, Axel questioned what those attacking Speedsta had done for the culture, both musically and beyond, insisting that Speedsta remains one of the pioneers of South African hip-hop, whether people like it or not.
Speedsta, a three-time South African Hip Hop Awards DJ of the Year winner, has long positioned himself as a key architect of the culture. Since breaking through in the late 2000s — winning the “So You Think You Can DJ” competition in 2008 and later becoming a resident on 5FM’s “The Shakedown” — he has released anthems like “Mayo” (featuring Yung Swiss, Tellaman, Shane Eagle, and Frank Casino), “Special Somebody,” “Don’t Worry,” and “Hangout.” These tracks helped define a new-school wave and earned nominations at major awards, including the MTV Africa Music Awards and Metro FM Awards.
Beyond production, Speedsta has hosted influential radio shows like Absolute Hip-Hop on Metro FM (which scooped Best Radio Show at the SA Hip Hop Awards) and currently fronts 5 Hip Hop Nights on 5FM. He co-hosted the popular YouTube series Popcast and recently launched his podcast Up To Speed, dedicated to hip-hop discussions and culture.
