DJ Speedsta Launches New Hip-Hop Podcast “Up To Speed.” South African hip-hop heavyweight DJ Speedsta is ready to plug back into the culture with the debut of his brand-new digital podcast, Up To Speed.
The Johannesburg-based DJ, producer, and radio personality took to social media to share the moment with fans, revealing that the concept has been quietly taking shape for over two years. Now, it is finally stepping into the spotlight. “Welcome to Up To Speed. Two years and some change in the making,” Speedsta wrote. “I am purely here to contribute to culture.”
Up To Speed is designed as a two-part experience. Each Sunday, Speedsta will host his current radio show on 5FM that sets the tone for the week, followed by extended conversations on YouTube where topics can breathe, unfold, and be properly examined. The format creates space for real hip-hop dialogue, moving beyond surface-level takes into deeper discussions about the music, the artists, and the state of the scene.
Speedsta made sure to acknowledge the team that helped turn the idea into reality, saluting Okay Swisher and DJ Fif Laaa for stepping in and believing in the vision. He also thanked @ayaprow_biggfun and BiggFun Media for managing the technical execution, from sound to visuals, and praised Loki’s Lekker for providing top-tier studio facilities. He encouraged fellow creatives to tap into the space for post-production services, including commercials, series, films, and sound design.
The series officially kicks off with Episode 1, which premiered yesterday on Speedsta’s YouTube channel, DJ Speedsta. The launch signals a fresh chapter for the hitmaker behind songs like “Mayo” and “Special Somebody,” as well as his gold-certified debut album BottlebrushStr. After years of shaping the sound and conversation through radio, mixtapes, and collaborations, Speedsta is now building a platform that keeps the hip-hop community informed, engaged, and connected.
With its focus on authenticity and culture-first storytelling, Up To Speed promises the kind of honest conversations that have defined Speedsta’s career for over a decade. In a bid to make SA Hip Hop fans involved in the conversation, Speedsta also announced that he will include a WhatsApp call line for fans to send their opinions on certain topics in SA Hip Hop.
