Emtee Mourns Late Friend Lebo In Raw & Heartfelt Tribute. South African rapper Emtee has shared a searing message of grief and gratitude as he remembered his late friend Lebo, a childhood companion he calls his right-hand man and the person who believed in him before the accolades and the headlines.

In an emotionally charged post, Emtee wrote, “I’m ju fu’d up bruh … I’m fu’d up! De nigga I grew up with no longer livin. My right-hand man.” Lebo died in 2021, a loss that still shapes the artist’s daily life and creative choices.
The post maps a relationship built long before studios and stages. Emtee recalls the quiet rituals that defined their bond, from friendly battles over FIFA and dice to the earliest versions of songs that would later shape his career.
“I’d rap for you first before anyone before I could record,” he wrote, framing Lebo as the first audience, the first critic, and the first believer. “Believed in me even when other kids laughed at me n told me I will never make it.” That memory turns the tribute into a timeline of trust. Before public recognition, there was private faith. Before the brand, there was a friend.
Emtee also painted snapshots of youthful hustle and promise. He remembered spontaneous mall runs, the kind of outings that feel ordinary until they exist only in the rearview. “I woulda taken you to the mall for some designer, some big racks n whatever else you wanted then later hit a coupla shows in one night,” he wrote. The image is cinematic, a day that starts with jokes and streetwear and ends under stage lights. It reads like a promise he kept while Lebo was alive and a promise he wishes he could keep again.
The loss, he says, has opened a door to new challenges. “All they’ve been doing is stealing from me since you left,” he wrote, adding that “nowadays people talk about me however they want, mock me and blame me for shit.” The contrast is stark. Where Lebo once offered steadiness, Emtee now sees noise. Where friendship once buffered the blows of public scrutiny, grief has left him bracing for impact alone. Yet the message is not only a lament. It is also a declaration of resilience. “I’m lost, but I will find a way. You know me.”
