Andries Bekker has been appointed forwards coach of an overseas club.
Rapport reports that the former Springbok lock has joined Russian Championship club Strela-Agro Kazan at the behest of head coach and former Bulls centre JP Nel following the departure of ex-Bok hooker Gary Botha.
Bekker was sacked by the Bulls late last year, along with backs coach Chris Rossouw, and later appointed as a consultant for the Hoërskool Garsfontein 1st XV.
“I know JP from when we played against each other many years ago,” Bekker told the Strela-Ak Bars website. “For me, this move is not just a job, it’s an opportunity to learn and grow in a new place, with new people.”

Bekker hopes to introduce elements of the physical style associated with South African rugby to the Russian club.
“I think when the Springboks play their best rugby and become irresistible, their overall performance dominates any opponent,” he said. “If we can add dominance to the overall picture and convert that pressure into points, it will be a good start.”
