As fans gear up for the 9th season of the reality TV show Big Brother Naija (BBNaija), here are the winners and runners-up for its previous editions.

With the anticipation for the new edition of the Big Brother Naija reality television show also known as BBNaija season 9 which will kick off on Sunday, July 28, 2024, here is a list of every winner across different seasons of the show.

Winners and Runners-Up of Big Brother Naija

Season 1

Katung Aduwak

Prize: $100,000

Year (Duration): 2006 (92 Days)

Winner: Katung Aduwak

Runner-Up: Francisca Owumi

Katung Aduwak, a scriptwriter from Kaduna, emerged as the winner of the inaugural season of the competition program, securing 51.3 percent of the total votes to claim the $100,000 prize. He triumphed over finalists Francisca Owumi, Ifeoma “Ify” Ejikeme, and Sandra “Sandy” Osigbovo.

Following his victory on the reality TV show, Aduwak pursued further education in New York at the Digital Film Academy, where he earned a degree in directing. He then transitioned into the film industry, working as a producer on projects such as “Unwanted Guest” and “Heaven’s Hell.” Additionally, Aduwak has appeared in the series “Desperate Housewives” on EbonyLife TV.

Season 2 (2018)

Efe

Winner: Michael “Efe” Ejeba

Runner-Up: Bisola 

Prize: N25 Million Grand Prize

Year (Duration): 2017 (78 Days)

Efe, originally from Delta State, captivated the audience with his musical talents and energetic personality. Although he lived in Jos, he won the hearts of Nigerians by connecting with the well-known city of Warri and sharing stories of humble beginnings.

Efe secured a decisive victory with 57.6 percent of the vote, surpassing Bisola who received 18.54 percent and T-Boss who garnered 13.60 percent. Despite reaching the finals, Debbie-Rise and Marvins obtained 8.78 percent and 1.47 percent of the total votes, respectively.

Season 3

Miracle Ikechukwu Igbokwe

Winner: Miracle Ikechukwu Igbokwe

Runner-Up: Tobi Bakare

Prize: N45 Million

Year (Duration): 2018 (85 Days)

This season’s winner was pilot Miracle Ikechukwu Igbokwe, an introverted favourite who secured victory with 38.18 percent of the vote. He triumphed over Oluwatobi “Tobi” Bakare and drama queen Cynthia “Cee-C” Nwadiora, who received 22.53 percent of the vote. Nina and Alex placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Miracle’s winnings included a Suburban vehicle valued at N12 million, a trip for two worth N4.7 million, electronic items valued at N3.3 million, alongside N25 million in cash.

Season 4

Mercy Eke

Winner: Mercy Eke

Runner-Up: Mike Edwards

Prize: N60 Million Grand Prize

Year (Duration): 2019 (99 Days)

Arguably one of the most intense seasons of Big Brother Naija, video starlet Mercy Eke emerged as the winner. Mercy Eke’s time in the house is famously marked by her heated argument with Instagram influencer Natacha “Tacha” Akide and other housemates, leading to Tacha’s eviction from the house.

Season 5

Laycon

Winner: Olamilekan Agbeleshe (Laycon)

Runner-Up: Dorathy Bachor

Prize: N85 Million Grand Prize

Year (Duration): 2020 (71 Days)

Undoubtedly, the Lockdown edition of BBNaija was the most captivating to date. After weeks of intense conflicts with fellow housemates, Olamilekan Agbeleshe, known as Laycon, emerged victorious. Laycon achieved a decisive victory over his competitors, winning prizes worth 85 million.

Season 6

Whitemoney

Winner: Hazel Oyeze Onou (Whitemoney)

Runner-Up: Liquorose

Prize: N90,000,000 Grand Prize

Year (Duration): 2021 (82 Days)

Whitemoney won Big Brother Naija Season 6 in 2021 he stood out for his pleasant demeanour and exceptional intelligence. Liquorose was named the runner-up.

For the sixth season, themed “Shine Ya Eye,” ex-housemate Ebuka Obi-Uchendu returned as the host for the fifth consecutive time. A total of 26 housemates competed over 82 days for a grand prize of N90,000,000 in the BBNaija Season 6 finale.

Season 7

Phyna

Winner: Josephine Otabor (Phyna)

Runner-Up: Bryann

Prize: N100,000,000 Grand Prize

Year (Duration): 2022 (72 Days)

The winner of BBNaija Level Up Season 7 is Ijeoma Josephine Otabor, known as Phyna. She clinched victory with 40.74% of the vote, defeating Bryann. Phyna takes home the grand prize of 100 million naira, becoming the second female champion in the show’s history.

Season 8

Ilebaye

Winner: Ilebaye Odiniya

Runner-Up: Mercy Eke

Prize: N120,000,000 Grand Prize

Year (Duration): 2022 (72 Days)

Ilebaye Precious Odiniya won BBNaija All Stars, the eighth season of the reality TV series. She secured the top position in the finale with 30.08% of the vote, surpassing 2019 winner Mercy Eke, who finished second with 23.46%, and Ceec, who took third place.
