The spotlight intensified recently when her boyfriend, rapper Reason (Sizwe Alakine), stormed into a radio studio to defend their relationship after hosts Thakgi and Sfiso made controversial remarks about Gigi’s standing in the public eye compared to his former partner, Lootlove.

During an interview on Shady Phodcast, Gigi Lamayne expressed deep appreciation for Sizwe’s bold move, which involved confronting the podcast hosts head-on after they suggested that he had “downgraded” romantically by being with Gigi instead of Lootlove. The moment was raw, intense, and undeniably powerful.

“I won’t lie, I appreciate him,” Gigi said. “I feel like now it’s the national duty to love him properly.” Her words spoke volumes about the respect and gratitude she feels towards her partner, who didn’t just sit idly by as their love was publicly scrutinized. But despite her appreciation, she added a layer of complexity to the moment: “My biggest issue with it is that it would have been nice if a woman did it. But I do feel like it wouldn’t have been as effective.”

When asked whether she knew he was going to confront the hosts, Gigi confessed she had no idea. “No, I didn’t know. I found out afterwards and I was worried. I was just glad that he didn’t insult anyone. He just set the record straight, and the fact that he didn’t get aggressive or violent was important.”

For those who may have missed the drama, Sizwe Alakine’s impassioned defence of their relationship took place live on air, as he questioned the validity and underlying issues of the hosts’ remarks. The hosts had boldly claimed that he had “downgraded” by choosing Gigi, implying that public perceptions about the women in his life were based on superficial standards. Sizwe, not one to shy away from standing his ground, stormed into the studio, making his stance clear.

“What downgrade? What gives you the right to sit down and discuss another man’s relationship? What are you teaching these kids here? That if you’re a girl that looks like Gigi in the public perception, you’re a downgrade compared to a girl that looks like Luthando in the public perception?” Sizwe demanded, his voice tinged with controlled fury, yet maintaining an air of razor-sharp clarity.

He then addressed the crux of the issue: the lack of factual foundation in the hosts’ opinions. “Luthando works for the radio, Gigi doesn’t work for anybody, so forget about the public knowledge—let’s talk about your knowledge.”

As the hosts stammered in response, Sizwe leaned into the mic, making it clear that his love for Gigi was not up for public debate. He pointed out how dangerous it is to air baseless opinions in such a public forum, especially when they could perpetuate harmful narratives.
