The Sharks’ 45-0 drubbing of Munster in Durban carried a deeper significance than just the full house of Vodacom URC log points.
Man of the Match Grant Williams – who was back in the team after a mandated Springbok rest period – revealed the emotional drive behind their statement performance, dedicating the victory to teammate Ethan Hooker, who suffered a devastating personal loss this week.
“I was a bit rusty, but it was good to get out there. I think it was a powerful performance from the bench, and we needed this win after losses to the Lions and Bulls.
“It was also special for us. We know what Ethan Hooker means to this team and he lost his Dad, which was quite emotional for us. We wanted to do it for him.”

The result also keeps the Sharks’ playoff hopes alive, and the message in the camp is clear.
“I guess every game is a must-win for us at the moment and we’re looking forward to the challenge,” Williams added.

“It was an unbelievably special game, especially for Mapimps. To finish a game off like that – especially in your 100th – I don’t think any player could ask for better than to score two tries in the last two minutes.”
