Herc Cut The Lights Reveals Why Focalistic-Featured “Ke Wave” Became His Debut Single. Herc Cut The Lights celebrates the release of his debut album SSG’98 today and takes time to clarify where his solo career truly began.
Many fans have pointed to songs like “Askies,” his hard-hitting collaboration with Priddy Ugly, as one of his first releases. However, when asked if that was his debut single, Herc quickly corrected the story. “The first single was actually ‘Ke Wave,’” he said firmly.
He explained why he chose this track as his first single, emphasising the unexpected collaboration that helped launch his solo journey.
“I’ve been making music with all my friends. Focalistic is featured on this single and people did not expect him to jump into hip hop like that. He was the one who pushed me to start releasing music, so that is why I chose ‘Ke Wave’ as my first single,” he shared.
Released in November 2025, “Ke Wave” features Amapiano star Focalistic alongside Brotherkupa. The song blends Herc’s crisp production style, mixing hip-hop energy with Amapiano’s signature log drums to create an energetic anthem. Focalistic surprised many by smoothly shifting into hip-hop sounds, showing his versatility beyond Pretoria’s usual beats.
“Ke Wave” led the way to SSG’98, which features collaborations with major South African artists such as Sjava, Blxckie, and Young Stunna. Earlier singles like the emotional “Tholakuwe” and the intense “AKIES, ASKIES” created buzz, but Herc makes it clear that everything started with the debut single featuring Focalistic.
