The visuals, which appeared on social media, sparked rumours of a romantic connection and drew mixed reactions, particularly from fans still mourning the late AKA, Nadia Nakai’s former partner, whose influence remains strong in the local hip-hop scene.

During a recent episode of L-Tido’s podcast, Bragga confronted the public scrutiny, asserting her right to live her life after the tragic death of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, who was fatally shot in Durban in February 2023. Nakai reflected on their year-long relationship before his passing, noting that her grief has spanned longer than the time they were together.

L-Tido asked about her decision to go public or allow the content to circulate, questioning its impact. “I think for Toss it was a positive move, but for you, it may not have been. What did you gain from it?” he asked.

Nadia responded with candour, highlighting her journey toward self-liberation. “I gained my freedom under this cloud of stigma that keeps me frozen in time as someone’s widow when I was never married to him,” she explained. “You must understand that Kiernan has been gone longer than I was with him when he was alive. I am still Nadia Nakai. I was Nadia Nakai before him, and I will continue to be Nadia Nakai after him.”

The conversation emphasised the tension between public expectations and private healing. L-Tido acknowledged the pain felt by AKA’s devoted fans, known as the Megacy. “A lot of AKA fans were hurt,” he said.

Nadia recognised their feelings but remained firm about her own needs. “I love the Megacy, but I also love myself, and I know I cannot spend my life alone,” she said. “I cannot spend my life loving a ghost. I will always love him. He has a special place in my heart, but I am ready to move on.”

The viral content, which included tender photos and clips of Nadia Nakai and Toss together, has fueled speculation about a potential relationship. Some fans have celebrated Nakai’s courage to start anew, while others feel it disrespects AKA’s memory. Toss, known for his popular tracks and growing influence in the amapiano scene, has not commented publicly, but the pair has drawn attention across social media platforms.

Bragga’s openness also reflects a larger conversation about how widows and grieving partners navigate life in the public eye. As one of South Africa’s leading female rappers, she has consistently challenged industry norms, from her debut album Nadia Naked to collaborations with top artists. This moment serves as a testament to her resilience, turning controversy into a declaration of personal empowerment.
