Award-winning Nigerian singer, Davido, has revealed his interest in joining the film industry, expressing excitement about acting and producing authentic African stories.
The Afrobeats star shared his plans during a panel session at the 2025 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) held in Lagos. Speaking at the session titled “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeat Movement and Its Impacts on African Film,” Davido said he is eager to expand his creativity beyond music.
According to him, acting has always been something he wanted to explore, and he hopes to take on a simple but memorable role.
“My brother said he wanted to give me a role, and I told him I wanted to play a taxi driver or something unexpected,” he said with a laugh.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, added that his interest in film stems from his desire to promote African stories on a global scale. He noted that he draws inspiration from international stars who have successfully combined music and acting, mentioning 50 Cent as one of his biggest influences.
“I definitely want to get involved in movies,” he said. “It’s another way to tell our stories and show the world the richness of African culture.”
Beyond acting, Davido also revealed that he hopes to venture into film production, focusing on stories that reflect African identity and culture. He cited his admiration for story-driven films and series like Uncorked, which highlight themes of culture and personal growth.
The Unavailable crooner emphasized that both African music and film have become powerful tools for shaping global perceptions and celebrating the continent’s creativity.
Through his growing interest in film, Davido said he hopes to bridge the gap between the music and movie industries while contributing to Africa’s expanding influence on the global entertainment stage.
