It’s official: Faf heading to Free State

The Cheetahs have confirmed the signing of Springbok scrumhalf Faf de Klerk.

The 34-year-old has committed to a two-year deal that will see him make Bloemfontein his home from June.

His arrival marks one of the Cheetahs’ most significant signings, bringing a wealth of international experience and a winning pedigree to the Free State.

Known for his abrasive defensive style, tactical kicking, and lightning-fast service, De Klerk was a pivotal figure in the 2019 and 2023 World Cup-winning campaigns.

He is currently playing for the Yokohama Canon Eagles in Japan, which followed a successful stint with the Sale Sharks in England.

“We are beyond excited to welcome Faf to the Cheetahs family,” said the Cheetahs’ leadership in a statement.

“His tenacity on the field and his leadership off it are exactly what we need as we continue to compete at the highest level.

“Faf is a player who changes the tempo of a game, and we know our supporters are eager to see him in the orange jersey.”
