Youth Development Perspective

As part of the youth Initiative for Leadership and Personal Development, Dr. Lesego Mawela, emphasized the importance of career exhibitions in township Schools, saying:

“Career exhibitions are crucial, especially in Township Schools, where South Africa faces high- School drop- out rates. One way to encourage children to stay in school is to help them develop clarify of purpose as learners must understand that their daily choices shape their future. Having the right values and making consistent, positive choices helps build strong character over time. Personally, I grew up fearing failure because, I believed it made me a bad person- but studies show that there’s no success without failure. We must reach learners to embrace those moments as part of the process. Reflecting on mistakes helps build resilience, confidence, and a positive mindset. My role was to inspire a self- believe and develop a good self-image”.

Conclusion

At the end of the program, learners engaged with different stakeholders to ask questions, gather more information, and learn about study opportunities in various careers fields. The event successfully equipped learners with inspiration and tools they need to create a brighter, and more informed future.
