Born Lonwabo Nkhoesa, made the claim in a candid video clip that has been widely shared online. Speaking with calm assurance rather than aggression, Kane Keid framed his statement as honest self-belief, not an attack on his peers.

“I’m the best rapper in Africa,” he said, stressing that his confidence comes without bitterness. He was careful to add that he harbours no hate and has no interest in conflict, explaining that his words reflect a clear understanding of his own abilities.

Whoever feels some way about it… I’m not a malicious dude, I dont have any hate in my heart. The greatest rapper in Africa, because I am. I dont think I’m reaching. A lot of niggas dont rap like me, dawg. If im being honest, like, I know. I dont want no squabbles, I dont have hate in my heart.”

Kane Keid’s confidence is backed by a steadily growing résumé. He first drew widespread attention after placing in the top 10 of the Sportscene Put Me On competition in 2023, followed by the release of his official debut mixtape DOLLAR. Since then, he has been praised for introspective songwriting, technical precision, and an ability to blend raw township experiences with sharp, thoughtful wordplay.

His statement arrives at a time when the South African hip-hop scene is as competitive as ever. Bold claims of greatness are nothing new and have long been part of the culture, echoed in the past by artists like A-Reece and others. What makes Kane Keid’s moment different is the tone. His words were confident but restrained, assertive without provoking immediate lyrical warfare.

As the Johannesburg-based rapper continues to release new material and grow his audience, the statement stands as both a marker of personal confidence and an open challenge in the ongoing discussion about who truly sits at the top of African hip-hop.
