Kenny Kunene Accuses Steyn-Linked Family of Sabotaging Zoocci Coke Dope’s Career. A fresh controversy has erupted in South Africa’s hip hop landscape after businessman and Patriotic Alliance deputy president Kenny Kunene publicly accused a powerful family associated with the Steyn name of derailing the career of acclaimed producer Zoocci Coke Dope.
Kunene, known for his outspoken views on political and cultural matters, alleged that the family behind the luxury Steyn City development is using its influence to sideline the award-winning producer. In an impassioned address on Podcast And Chill with MacG and Sol Phenduka, Kunene claimed Zoocci’s “future is being destroyed” through what he described as a restrictive contractual arrangement.
According to Kunene, Zoocci’s association with the Stay Low record label has left him creatively constrained and unable to release new music or collaborate freely. He suggested that influential figures connected to the Steyn legacy have tightened control around the label’s operations, effectively placing the producer in professional limbo.
Kunene further alleged that Zoocci played a significant role in shaping the label’s roster by introducing and nurturing emerging talent. However, he claimed that those same artists were later turned against him by powerful stakeholders. He framed the situation as part of a broader pattern in which vulnerable young artists sign binding agreements out of financial desperation, only to find themselves trapped.
Positioning himself as an advocate, Kunene declared that he intends to help Zoocci Coke Dope secure his release from the contract. He insisted that the matter goes beyond one individual and speaks to deeper concerns about fairness, racial dynamics, and power imbalances within the entertainment industry.
Zoocci Coke Dope, whose real name is Zolani Mahola, has previously addressed the record label issue in his song “Current State Of Mind V.” Ever since the release of the song, the famed producer and rapper has remained largely silent as he works with influential figures like Kenny Kunene to rescue himself from his current predicament with Stay Low.
