Kolisi: Cardiff clash no walkover for Boks

Siya Kolisi has highlighted the unique challenge of facing Wales in Cardiff, warning that the hosts remain a dangerous opponent despite their recent struggles.

As the Springboks look to cap off their 2024 campaign with an 11th win of the season and an unbeaten November tour, Kolisi emphasised the importance of staying focused on delivering a complete performance.

While the Springboks are determined to end the season on a high note, they are wary of the resilience Wales can show.

“We know what Wales are experiencing at the moment and we all saw their score last week. But if one looks at their forwards in particular, they won over five scrum penalties, and they have a pack that can lay a good foundation,” said Kolisi.

Wales have beaten South Africa in Cardiff four times under Warren Gatland’s leadership, with their last victory at the Principality Stadium coming in 2018.

The venue remains one of the most intimidating arenas in world rugby, and Kolisi noted how the atmosphere created by the home crowd elevates the challenge.

“We’ve faced Wales many times, and playing against them in Cardiff is a different story. In fact, many of us have lost against them here before,” said the Springbok skipper.

Kolisi also spoke of the passionate Welsh fans, who make the Principality Stadium a fortress for their team, even during tough times.

“There’s always a great atmosphere at the Principality Stadium and their fans really get behind them and stand by them, and we have no doubt it will be the same tomorrow,” he said.

The focus within the South African camp remains firmly on improving their own performance after a somewhat inconsistent display in last week’s 29-20 victory over England.

“Within our camp, however, the focus is on ourselves, and we want to ensure that we deliver a better performance than we did in the last two games and finish the season properly,” added Kolisi.
