Laycon and DJ Neptune’s ‘Nobody’ remix deal sparks controversy

A public dispute has erupted between Big Brother Naija star Laycon and DJ Neptune over their 2020 collaboration on the Nobody remix.

Laycon took to X to accuse DJ Neptune of cheating him out of their agreed-upon deal, writing: “Abeg o… @deejayneptune how far my agreement and split for the “Nobody (Icons Remix)” song though. Is it not still ready? haba it’s been 4 years o.”

In response, DJ Neptune addressed the situation during an appearance on the Zero Conditions podcast. According to Neptune, the distribution company had provided advance marketing funds to promote the music video, but they needed to recoup their investment before proceeding with the agreed-upon split. Also, he revealed that Laycon’s team had rejected an offered amount, leading to the current stalemate.

Neptune downplayed the controversy, stating that things were not as Laycon had portrayed and that it was simply a misunderstanding. The situation has sparked a heated debate among fans. While some supported Laycon’s claims over Nobody remix, others backed DJ Neptune’s explanation.

Lastly, the dispute highlights the often-complex nature of music collaborations and the importance of clear communication and agreements.
