The move effectively ends seven years of a festival that became a launchpad for young South African talent and has prompted strong reaction from artists, industry figures and fans.

Cotton Fest can’t end like this, not when it has meant so much to the youth of South Africa.
So today, I’m putting my hand up. Ready to invest, Ready to support Bianca, and to help bring Cotton Fest back to life. Some movements are too important to let die. We never die. We multiply.”
Those were the words Legend Sheldon posted after the organisers’ announcement, a public offer of support to Bianca Naidoo and others who have stewarded the festival’s creative programme.

Sheldon Tatchell, known in business circles as Legend Sheldon and connected to the Legend Barber network, framed his message as more than sympathy. He signalled an intention to explore funding and operational support to keep Cotton Fest’s spirit alive, especially the mentorship and development work that gave young artists, designers and creatives a visible platform. His pledge has already reignited conversations among sponsors, former performers and community stakeholders about possible ways forward.

Cotton Fest began in 2019 and quickly grew into an anticipated date on South Africa’s cultural calendar, combining live music, fashion and youth led programming. Organisers say they will continue the festival’s Creative Programme, the mentorship and talent development arm, even as the large scale festival itself is paused, and they have advised ticket holders to seek refunds through official channels.

For now, Legend Sheldon’s public offer gives the Cotton Fest community a lifeline and a reminder of the cultural value the event carried. Whether that offer becomes a concrete plan will depend on negotiations with current stakeholders, funding arrangements and shared alignment around a renewed vision that the founder’s family and key partners can support.
